How to Start Believing Positively in Yourself Again

I just finished reading an incredible book by Andy Andrews called, The Little Things.

There were several statements in the book that stood out to me. I share some of them below.

  • Absolute belief controls behavior absolutely.
  • It is impossible for a person to outperform her acknowledged capability.
  • A person cannot achieve beyond what she really believes to be the truth about herself.
  • What a person believes is so powerful that her belief actually controls her behavior.
  • To correctly predict the level to which a person might achieve, one needs only to discover the truth about what that person believes.

Just let that sink in for a moment.

It is impossible for a person to outperform her acknowledged capability.

The words we speak to our spirit and “inner-selves” are critical.

What have you been saying to yourself lately? Are you speaking words of life or words of doubt?

I know you probably speak words of life to everyone else, but what are you saying to yourself?

Many people say that want to be successful and significant, but do you truly believe that for yourself? So much where you’re willing to sacrifice and do what it takes to succeed?

“Saying” and “Doing” are two completely different things.

Stop letting your past dictate your future

The past is just that.

If you allow the happiness and success of your future to be crippled by poor decisions of the past, you’ll weigh yourself down with feelings of guilt, shame and insecurity.

Today is a new day. It’s time to square your shoulders, hold your head up, and walk in the God-ordained future that is destined for you.

No one will care about your success as much as you do. It’s your job to build confidence by taking action.

You don’t build confidence by sitting still. You build confidence by taking action and getting in the game of life.

Speak words of life to Yourself

Remember David in the Bible? As strong as he was, even he had to encourage himself in the Lord.

“And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.” – 1 Samuel 30:6

When I’m working with a client, before the coaching even begins, I take a close look at what their belief system is about themselves. If they absolutely truly believe they can, they will.
However, if they sabotage those beliefs with thoughts of doubt and negativity, then their success limit has already been capped.
I want to challenge you today to take inventory of the thoughts you allow into your mind.
Speak words of life. Say them like you mean it. Over time, as you are faithful and consistent, you’ll watch your life line up with what you say.
“Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks…” – Luke 6:45
